High School uh in football I am the assistant head football coach Under head coach Trey Brooks and I coach our safeties for our defense uh for track under head coach will mccre I coach the boys and girls hurdles um and uh Josh Potter dear friend of mine old coaching buddy we coached together he had as me to to uh present this video so uh here it goes I'm just going to talk a little0:35bit about uh one of the things that's real special to me is uh involved with coaching and that is relationships specifically relationships with my fellow coaches and colleagues um that I've worked with over the years um it is one of the most uh important influential uh fulfilling components of this career to me and that is that's the the relationships that I've built and developed with other coaches over the years um best friends is what I created um every staff that I've been on there's guys that I still talk to today no1:17matter if it was 20 years ago or five years ago or or or and the GU some of the guys that I'm on the staff with now I have been with probably for the last 10 years or so uh and so like these guys are my best friends uh their their families are tight with my family uh the I've watched their kids grow up or I've seen there you know been known them before they had kids and now they have two or three or whatever it's just1:44tight-knit group uh tiit families um and it means a lot to me and my family because my family is all about this too uh I have uh five kids myself were Blended my wife and I and all our kids have have been involved in one way or the other in athletics and um I've got to coach uh several of them um that's just that's something that I can't explain it's really great um but just just the aspect of being able to have a relationship with these guys that I have2:14over the years I wouldn't have been able to do that in any other career I just just I just know it um you know the the Texas High School coaches association and and the coaches in Texas it's a huge fraternity to start with but then when you look at uh um each coach's staff you know it's just it's a fraternity itself too and then your and then the individuals that you have relationships with amongst or within each staff that you that you've been on it's just super special and um2:45it's just one of the major things that has kept me in it uh and I I actually got out of coaching for one year um and uh boy that was a mistake there was no fulfillment at all uh I missed the camaraderie I missed relationships uh you know I missed all kinds of things but like I said specifically this this video is about relationships with the other coaches U I mentioned the the Josh parter he's a guy that I work with one year I worked with him one year but I feel like3:17I've known him my whole life I feel like I worked I feel like we you know shed Blood Sweat and Tears for 10 years together and it was just one year one football season um but but uh it's a bond that goes way deeper than than that it'll last forever um and that's just a guy that I coach one season with um I have all these other guys uh these these men that I've that I've coached with uh over the years as I said know things3:42about their family know their kids all that kind of stuff it's just a really really really special bond that I don't think I would have with any other career choice that I would have chosen to do or pursue um I would I would my son uh my oldest son is going to graduate from college in May 25 and he's going to coach and I've known he I known he's going to do that since he was little bitt five six seven years old and he's known it too uh he's grown up around it4:12he doesn't know any different and he doesn't know or want to know life other than that other than this life and and uh he's had people try to talk him out of it he's a super bright kid he's getting a really good degree from a really uh prestigious institution that he could probably go out and make more money doing but he doesn't want to do that he wants to do this uh because it's in his blood it's in his DNA that's what he knows that's what he4:36wants to do that's why he'll be the best at and God will bless us as he has with me in other ways uh that uh money can't buy and uh that's just a little bit of how I feel about it I love the relationships I love every guy that that I work with every every co-worker every colleague um it's just like I said I can't describe it and uh I don't know I I I can't imagine working in a job where I feel where I didn't feel that way uh5:06about the people that I work with and and and I use the word work Loosely or lightly whatever because I don't feel like this is work because I enjoy coming to work every day uh I enjoy the the the uh the back and forth the camaraderie the jokes the this the that the the shedding the blood uh Sweat and Tears together um you it's just special and again um uh I I I would highly any young coach who wants to get into it get into this5:36profession I'm not going to discourage them uh like I see some people do that's just not happening we need we need more youth in the in the field we need them to to uh you know carry the torch per se uh for what we've been able to do in this profession for for years and years and years and uh so I'll never I'll I'll be a fan number one forever of the coaching profession and and uh and I don't have any you know I'm going to6:03retire at some point but that's not anything that I have circled uh on the calendar by any means so uh I love doing it my family's in it they love it um it's what makes us who we are and uh wouldn't have it any other way and uh anyway I hope this is some somewhat impactful uh or meaningful to someone um you can always reach me if you need to or want to uh
